Oct 20th 2016In a hot, tropical climate, Thin Film A-si PV will be the most cost effective because it has a lower coefficient of temperature and works on diffuse lighting as well as direct Sunlight. That means that as it gets hotter it does not suffer losses from heat like Crystalline PV does and works in cloud as well as from early in the morning until late in the evening. Generally, in very hot climates you can get as much as 60% more annual yield from Thin Film A-si PV than crystalline PV.

Oct 19th 2016When looking at FIT you MUST look at the amount you PAY back to the power company for the electricity you use in your factory or house.

If you have a high electricity bill then over the life of your PV system you will pay back at least 300% more than you receive from FIT. Check the repayments for electricity over the life of your system against the FIT payments for your building before entering an agreement where you can lose a lot of money. Remember the electricity tariff increases each year while the FIT payments remain the same for the life of your system. In Malaysia, the electricity tariff has risen 100% in just the last 3 years, take this increase into account. The best option is to use stand alone PV where you don't pay anything for electricity and save a lot of money compared to FIT.

Return on Investment

Oct 20th 2016Solar power should be a stand alone alternative to Mains power. It is not an investment, it is your main electricity supply. Comparing your Mains power supply investment to your solar power investment, then both are the same ROI but the solar power gives free electricity while the power company keep charging and always increasing the costs. Neither have ROI, they are ongoing costs.

If you have FIT system in Malaysia then you ALWAYS pay for your electricity despite having solar power which you put back into the mains power grid. Once your power is in the grid it is lost, the grid can not store it and you can not get it back. Therefore you must PAY the power company for all the electricity you use. This means there is never any return on your investment and all your money goes back to the power company forever, leaving you with heavy losses over the life of an FIT system. Always use stand alone PV systems where you do not Pay for electricity and never have to pay the power company.

Oct 20th 2016For FIT systems you need approval from SEDA in Malaysia. This is very limited by Government capping, so only a few systems are approved each year.

Solar Farms and all PV systems that waste power by putting it into the mains power grid will require approval from SEDA.

For stand alone systems no approval is required but you should ensure your installer is a member of MPIA, the local PV industry association.

Grid Connection

Oct 20th 2016In Malaysia, if you already have grid power then you do not need solar power as well, so grid connection is not really required. Stand alone systems do not require grid connection.
